Web Dev Challenge is a feel good, standalone, unscripted reality series where we ask teams of developers to build an app based on a unique challenge and using a specific tool. Developers work in teams of two and have 30 minutes to plan and 4 hours to build.

CodeTV makes tv for developers. We're a production company run by Jason Lengstorf, an engineer with over 20 years of industry experience at companies like IBM and Netlify. We believe that developers deserve high-quality content that tells stories about our craft, featuring real professionals.

We focus on finding unique, joyful approaches to showcasing the best our industry has to offer. Developer education can be fun and entertaining while still remaining extremely actionable and valuable.

Our programming highlights the strength and diversity of our industry, sharing real developers' stories to help every developer learn, build, and grow their career together with a welcoming community.

What You Can Expect as a Contestant

As a developer on the show, you’ll be teamed up with another developer to build an app from scratch based on the given episode’s challenge and tool.

• We’ll fly you to Portland to film in the CodeTV studio

  Note: If you’re selected as a contestant, we will reimburse your travel, lodging, and related expenses.

• We will pull you aside for interviews throughout the day

• You will demo your app with your teammate at the end of the day

What We Expect From You

People with web development experience of all levels are welcome to apply!

• You are based in the United States or Canada.
• You have at least 1–3 years of web development experience.
  • This doesn't need to be professional experience! Bootcamps, university, side projects, and anything else that kept you learning and building counts.
• You are resilient and comfortable getting things wrong sometimes, as long as there's an opportunity to learn and grow.
• Your are comfortable thinking on your feet. This show is a bit like improv where you’ll be making things up on the fly with your teammate.
• You are comfortable on camera. You'll be building in front of a full production crew that will be pointing cameras at you.
• You are curious, playful, and collaborative.
